مِنَ اللَّهِ ذِي الْمَعَارِج
“A questioner asked concerning a torment about to befall.
Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert,
From Allaah, the Owner of the ways of ascent.”

Ibn Jarir said: “Dhil-Ma’aarij means the Owner of Highness, Graciousness and Favors.” [Jami’ul-Bayaan]

The Impact of Believing in this Name
1- Allaah, the Blessed, the Most High is the Lord, the King, the Creator, the Mudabbir (Who manages the affairs), Dhul-Ma’aarij to Whom the angels and the souls ascend, as well as one’s good and righteous deeds and utterances.
Abul-Qasim al-Asbahani said: “One of Allaah’s Names is Dhul-Ma’aarij and it means: The deeds of the creation ascend to Him, as He (Ta’ala) says in Surat Faatir (35:10):
إلَيْهِ يَصْعَدُ الْكَلِمُ الطَّيِّبُ وَالْعَمَلُ الصَّالِحُ يَرْفَعُهُ
“…To Him ascend (all) the goodly words, and the righteous deeds exalt it…”
The angels of the day ascend with the deeds that one performs during the day, and the angels of the night ascend with the deeds that one performs during the evening.
Therefore, adorn your records with righteous deeds, strictly guard offering the five obligatory prayers; for indeed the obligatory prayers take away (remove) the misdeeds. It is mentioned in the books of Tafseer that good deeds implies the five obligatory prayers.” [Al-Hujjah]
Al-Bukhaari (Rahimahullaah) reported that Abu Hurairah (Radia-Allaahu ‘anhu) narrated that the Prophet (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “There are angels coming to you in succession at night, and others during the day; they all gather at the time of ‘Asr and Fajr Salaat (prayers). Then the angels who have stayed with you overnight ascend (to the heaven) and He (Allaah) asks them, though He perfectly knows their affairs, “In what state have you left my slaves?” They say: “When we left them, they were offering Salaat and when we came to them they were offering Salaat.” [Al-Bukhaari – Book of Tawheed]
2) This Name indicates the Highness of the Lord, the Exalted, over His servants, and that He is above them. This is because ‘Uruj is ascension as previously mentioned.
