The word alcohol is originally called “Ghowl”. Allaah (Ta’ala) mentioned it in the Qur’an when He described the Khamr (wine) of Paradise in Surat As-Saaffaat [37:47]: لَا فِيهَا غَوْلٌ وَلَا هُمْ عَنْهَا يُنْزَفُونَ “Neither will they have Ghowl (any kind of hurt, abdominal pain, headache, sin, etc.) from that, nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom.”
