An-Nahj al-Asma Fii Sharh Asma Allahu al-Husna by Shaikh Muhammad an-Najdi
These two Noble Names are mentioned in many verses in the Qur’an:
Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says in Surat al- Baqarah (2:257):
اللّهُ وَلِيُّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ يُخْرِجُهُم مِّنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّوُرِ
“Allaah is the Waliyy (Protector or Guardian) of those who believe. He brings them out from darkness into light.”
Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says in Surat an-Nisa’ (4:45):
وَاللّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِأَعْدَائِكُمْ وَكَفَى بِاللّهِ وَلِيّاً وَكَفَى بِاللّهِ نَصِيراً
“Allaah has full knowledge of your enemies, and Allaah is Sufficient as a Waliyy (Ally or Protector). And Allaah is Sufficient as a Helper.”
Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) also says in Surat al Ma’idah (5:55):
إِنَّمَا وَلِيُّكُمُ اللّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ
“Verily, your Waliyy (Ally, Protector or Helper) is none but Allaah, His Messenger and those who have believed.”
In Surat al-An’aam (6:127), Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says:
لَهُمْ دَارُ السَّلاَمِ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ وَهُوَ وَلِيُّهُمْ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَ
“For them will be the home of peace (i.e Paradise) with their Lord. And He will be their Waliyy (Helper and Protector).”
Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says in Surat Al-A’raaf (7:155):
أَنتَ وَلِيُّنَا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ الْغَافِرِين
“You are our Waliyy (Protecter), so forgive us and have mercy on us, so You are the best of those who forgive.”
In Surat al-A’raaf (7:196) Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says:
إِنَّ وَلِيِّـيَ اللّهُ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ الْكِتَابَ وَهُوَ يَتَوَلَّى الصَّالِحِينَ
“Verily, my Waliyy (Ally, Protector, Supporter, and Helper) is Allaah Who has revealed the Book and He protects the righteous.”
In Surat Yusuf (12:101), Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says:
فَاطِرَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ أَنتَ وَلِيِّي فِي الدُّنُيَا وَالآخِرَةِ تَوَفَّنِي مُسْلِماً وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالصَّالِحِين
“The (only) Creator of the heavens and the earth! You are my Waliyy in this world and in the Hereafter, cause me to die as a Muslim, and join me with the righteous.”
Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says in Surat ash-Shura (42:28):
وَهُوَ الْوَلِيُّ الْحَمِيد
“And He is the Waliyy (Protector, Supporter, Helper) Worthy of all praise.”
The Name Al-Mawlaa is mentioned twelve times in the Noble Qur’an , such as:
Surat al-Baqarah (2:286), Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says:
وَاعْفُ عَنَّا وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَارْحَمْنَا أَنتَ مَوْلاَنَا فَانصُرْنَا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ الْكَافِرِينَ
“Pardon us and grant us the forgiveness, have mercy on us, You are our Mawlaa (Patron, Supporter, and Protector) and give us victory over the disbelieving people.”
In Surat Aal-‘Imran (3:150), Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says:
بَلِ اللّهُ مَوْلاَكُمْ وَهُوَ خَيْرُ النَّاصِرِينَ
“Nay, Allaah is Your Mawlaa (Protector) and He is the Best of helpers.”
In Surat al-An’aam (6:62), Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says:
ثُمَّ رُدُّواْ إِلَى اللّهِ مَوْلاَهُمُ الْحَقِّ أَلاَ لَهُ الْحُكْمُ وَهُوَ أَسْرَعُ الْحَاسِبِينَ
“Then they are returned to Allaah, their true Mawlaa (True Master, the Just Lord). Unquestionably, His is the judgment, and He is the Swiftest of accountants.”
In Surat al Anfaal (8:40), Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says:
وَإِن تَوَلَّوْاْ فَاعْلَمُواْ أَنَّ اللّهَ مَوْلاَكُمْ نِعْمَ الْمَوْلَى وَنِعْمَ النَّصِير
“And if they turn away, then know that Allaah is your Mawlaa (Protector) (What) an excellent Mawlaa, and (what) an excellent Helper.”
In Surat Muhammad (47:11), Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says:
ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ مَوْلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَأَنَّ الْكَافِرِينَ لَا مَوْلَى لَهُمْ
“That is because Allaah is the Mawlaa (Lord, Master, Helper, Protector) of those who believe and the disbelievers have no Mawlaa (Lord, Master, Helper, Protector)
The Meaning of the two Names:
Meaning of Al-Waliyy
Ibn Jarir (Rahimahullaah) said concerning Allaah’s statement,
اللّهُ وَلِيُّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ
“Allaah is the Waliyy of those who believed” which means that Allaah is their supporter and Helper who takes them into His Guardianship with his help and guidance.
يُخْرِجُهُم مِّنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّوُرِ
“Brings them out of darkness into light” that is, brings them out of the darkness of disbelief (infidelity) into the light of faith. [Jami’ul Bayan]
Ibn Jarir also said regarding Allaah’s Statement,
وَكَفَى بِاللّهِ وَلِيّاً
“Allaah is sufficient as a Waliyy” that is, Allaah (Your Lord) is sufficient for you as a Waliyy (Ally) Who protects and guards you and your affairs, protects you from your enemies who fights you and fight your religion and try to make you deviate from your religion and prevent you from following the guidance of your Prophet (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wasallam). [Jami’ul Bayan]
He (Ibn Jarir) said regarding Allaah’s Statement,
إِنَّ وَلِيِّـيَ اللّهُ الَّذِي نَزَّلَ الْكِتَابَ وَهُوَ يَتَوَلَّى الصَّالِحِينَ
“Verily, my Waliyy (Ally, protector, Helper) is Allaah Who has revealed the Book and He protects the righteous.”
Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says to His Prophet Muhammad (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wasallam): “O Muhammad! Tell the polytheists, the idol worshippers that my Waliyy (Ally, Helper, Protector and Supporter) against you is Allaah Who has sent down the Book to me with Truth. He Who provides support and protection to those whose deeds are righteous doing what He has commanded them and avoid what He has forbidden, who are obedient among His creation. [Jami’ul Bayan]
Az-Zajjaj said: “Al-Waliyy is derived from Muwalaat (allegiance). The Waliyy is the Supporter, Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says in Surat al-Baqarah (2:257): “Allaah is the Waliyy of those who believe. He brings them out of darkness into light.” He (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) is their Ally Who takes charge of supporting and guiding them as guardian does with his child (or son). On the Day of Judgement, He (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) will be the One Who gives them the reward and recompense them.” [Tafseer al-Asmaa]
Al-Khattabi mentioned something similar to the statement of Az-Zajjaj and added: “Al Waliyy is also Who is in charge of the matter and standing in the disposing it as the sponsor of the orphan, and the Waliyy (guardian and sponsor) of the woman (her father, her brother her relatives, etc.) at the time of wedding and signing the marriage contract. Originally it is derived from the word Waliy i.e nearness.” [Sha’n ad-Du’aa]
Al-Haleemi said: “Al-Waliyy is al-Waali i.e the Master, the Lord, the Ruler. It means: He Who is the Owner of disposing the affairs. Therefore, the sponsor of the orphan is called Waliyy of the Orphan, and the Ameer (the ruler) is called Waali.” [al-Minhaj]
In a “Al-Maqsad al-Asnaa”, it is mentioned that Al-Waliyy is the Loving Supporter.
Meaning of Al-Mawlaa:
Ibn Jarir said regarding Allaah’s Statement, “You are our Mawlaa (Patron, Supporter, etc.) and give us victory over the disbelieving people,” that it means; You are our Patron and Ally Who gives victory and support because we believe in You and are obedient to your Command, avoiding Your prohibition, not like those who oppose You and disbelieve in You. You are the Waliyy (Ally, Protector, Supporter, etc.) of whoever obeys You and You are the enemy to everyone who disbelieves in You and disobeys you. Give us Victory and support because we are Your party over the disbelieving people who deny Your Oneness and worship deities other than You and obey the Shaitan in disobedience to You [Jami’ul Bayan]
Al-Khattabi said: “Al-Mawlaa is the Supporter and Helper, similar to an-Naseer as Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says iin Surat al-Hajj (22:78):
وَاعْتَصِمُوا بِاللَّهِ هُوَ مَوْلَاكُمْ فَنِعْمَ الْمَوْلَى وَنِعْمَ النَّصِيرُ
“And hold fast to Allaah [i.e. have confidence in Allaah and depend upon Him in all your affairs]. He is your Mawlaa (Patron and Lord) What an excellent Mawlaa and what an excellent Helper.” [Sha’n ad–Du’aa]
Al-Haleemi said in its meaning: “He Who is hoped for granting victory and help, because He is the Owner, and there is no resort for the Slave except to his Owner (Master).” [Al-Kitab al-Asnaa]
The Impact of believing in these two names:
1- Indeed, Allaah (Azza Wa Jall) is the Waliyy (Ally, Protector, Patron) of those who have believed, i.e. their supporter and helper. He grants them victory over their enemy, and He is sufficient for them as a Waliyy and Supporter. He Who hears and responds to their invocation and remembrance, Who is Near to them, they are proud of Him and seek support and victory in their fight.
It is reported in a Hadeeth reported by Al-Baraa’ (Radia-Allaahu ‘anhu) that after the battle of Uhud, Abu Sufyan, the commander of the idolators at that time, inquired about the Prophet (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi w sallam) saying: “Is Muhammad among the people?” The Prophet (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said: “Do not respond to him,” then Abu Sufyan inquired about Abu Bakr (Radia-Allaahu ‘anhu) saying: “Is Ibn Abi Quhaafah among the people?” The Prophet (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “Do not respond to him.” Abu Sufyan inquired about ‘Umar (Radia-Allaahu ‘anhu) saying, “Is Ibn al Khattab among the people?” When he heard no response, he announced: “Verily, those three have died!” If they were alive, they would have answer.” Umar then responded to him: “You lie, O enemy of Allaah! Allaah has indeed saved those who will displease you. Indeed, those whom you mentioned are all alive!”
Abu Sufyan then said: “Well, today makes up for (the defeat on) the day of Badr, and the war has its ups and downs. And indeed, you are going to find mutilation (in the bodies of your dead) that I did not command, nor did I prohibit.”
Then he turned around chanting: “Glory to Hubal (their greatest idol), Glory to Hubal.” Allaah’s Messenger (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said: “Aren’t you going to respond to him?” The Companions said: “What should we say, O Messenger of Allaah?” He (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said: “Say: Allaah is the Most High and Most Glorious.”
Then Abu Sufyan said: “We have al-Uzza (their second idol), and you have no ‘Uzza (honour).” Allaah’s Messenger (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) said: “Aren’t you all going to respond to him?” They said: “What should we say, O Messenger of Allaah?” He said: “Say: Allaah is Our Mawlaa (Protector), and you have no Mawlaa (Protector).” [Al-Bukhaari]
In this Battle there is a warning for the Muslims and those who come after them, it is a lesson for whoever receives the admonition throughout the generations that: As much as the Muslim complies with the Book of his Lord and the Sunnah (way and guidance is shown) of His Prophet (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) by belief, statement and action, he will receive the support and help from Allaah (Azza Wa Jall).
The defeat that occurred in the battle of uhud was because of the disobedience of the actions and opposition to the command of their Prophet (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) by leaving their places on the mountains after them seeing the glad tidings of the victory and hastening towards collecting the booty.
Ibn al-Qayyim (Rahimahullaah) said: “It means according to the following of the Messenger (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) will be the honor, sufficiency, and support and according to the following him (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wasallam), guidance, success and salvation are attained. Allaah (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) linked the happiness in both abodes (the worldly abode and on the Last Day) with the following of the Prophet (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and made the wretchedness in both abodes by contradicting him. Guidance and security will be for his followers in addition to success, honor sufficiency, support, allegiance and good life in this life and Hereafter. While humiliation, fear and misguidance will be for those who oppose him in addition to disgrace and misery in this life and Hereafter.” [Zaad al-Ma’ad]
2- Allaah is the Waliyy (Ally, Protector, Helper, etc.) of the believers by His Grace upon them, benefaction to them and disposing and guarding all their affairs. He is the Protector of their blessings.
Is this meaning applicable to the disbelievers?
Al-Zajjaj said: “If someone says, ‘Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) has bestowed blessings upon the disbelievers as He has bestowed upon the believers, then can we say that Allaah is the Waliyy (Patron, Ally, Protector, etc) of the disbelievers?’ He was answered with the following: ‘We have not said that this is the only meaning for the Waliyy, but we say: ‘This is one of the aspects of the Waliyy, however, when Allaah (Azza Wa Jall) has bestowed blessings upon the believers and they received His benefaction with gratitude, confession, obedience and Tawheed, hence become permissible to say that Allaah is Waliyy of those who have believed by granting them favors and their acceptance and gratefulness. – in return- to Him. Although Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) has bestowed favors upon disbelievers, but it will not be said that He is their Waliyy because of their denial for the blessings, abandonment of confession, as Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) said to His Prophet (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) in Surat an-Naziat (79:45):
إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُنذِرُ مَن يَخْشَاهَا
“You are only a warner for those who fear it.”
And He (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) warned also those who did not fear it. However, they did not benefit from the warning.
Accordingly, when Al-Waliyy means the Naasir (Supporter) and the Ally (Who loves His believing slaves) and the One Who praises, etc. then, it is not permissible to say: Allaah is Waliyy (Ally, Protector, etc.) of the disbelievers.” [Ishtiqaq al-Asma’]
Ibn al-Qayyim (Rahimahullaah) mentioned in his book “Bada’ie al-Fawaa’id” the following: “There is a long debate regarding the issue, ‘Does Allaah bestow a favor (blessing) upon the disbeliever or not?’
A group has negated the bestowal of favors, taking Allaah’s following statements as proofs:
صِرَاطَ الَّذِينَ أَنعَمتَ عَلَيهِمْ
“The way of those on whom You have bestowed Your Grace.” [1:6]
وَمَن يُطِعِ اللّهَ وَالرَّسُولَ فَأُوْلَـئِكَ مَعَ الَّذِينَ أَنْعَمَ اللّهُ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ النَّبِيِّينَ وَالصِّدِّيقِينَ وَالشُّهَدَاء وَالصَّالِحِين وَحَسُنَ أُولَـئِكَ رَفِيقاً
“And whosoever obeys Allaah and the Messenger, then they will be in the company of those on whom Allaah has bestowed His Grace of the Prophets, the Siddiqeen, the Martyrs, and the Righteous, and how excellent these Companions are!” [An-Nisaa 4:69]
So Allaah (Azza Wa Jall) has particularized those with bestowing the Grace upon them, this indicates that other than them are not favored. Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) also said to the believers in Surat al-Baqarah (2:150):
“So I may complete My Favor upon you.”
And the bestowing of favors contradicts revenge and punishment. Therefore, there is no graces bestowed upon who is created for eternal torment.
A group who affirmed the bestowal of favors, and their evidence is Allaah’s following statements:
وَإِن تَعُدُّواْ نِعْمَتَ اللّهِ لاَ تُحْصُوهَا
“And if you count the blessings of Allaah, never will you be able to count them.” [Ibrahim, 14:34]
يَا بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ اذْكُرُواْ نِعْمَتِيَ الَّتِي أَنْعَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَأَوْفُواْ بِعَهْدِي أُوفِ بِعَهْدِكُمْ وَإِيَّايَ فَارْهَبُونِ
“O Children of Israel! Remember My Favor which I bestowed upon you.” [Al-Baqarah 2:40]
Children of Israel were addressed with this speech when they were in state of disbelief.
In Surat an Nahl Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala), enumerated His favors upon His slaves from beginning till His statement:
كَذَلِكَ يُتِمُّ نِعْمَتَهُ عَلَيْكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُسْلِمُون(81) فَإِن تَوَلَّوْاْ فَإِنَّمَا عَلَيْكَ الْبَلاَغُ الْمُبِينُ(82) يَعْرِفُونَ نِعْمَتَ اللّهِ ثُمَّ يُنكِرُونَهَا وَأَكْثَرُهُمُ الْكَافِرُون (83)
“Thus does He perfect His Grace unto you, that you may submit yourselves to His Will (in Islam), then if they turned away, your duty (O Muhammad (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) ) is only to convey (the Message) in a clear way.” [An-Nahl 81-83]
This is a clear text which indicates that both the righteous and the wicked, the believer and the disbeliever are all live enjoying Allaah’s Bounties. This is known by all mankind, except an arrogant who denies the right of Allaah and was ungrateful to His Favors.
In Conclusion:
The absolute blessing/grace is particular to the believers, no one shares with them except them. While the blessings/grace is general for all the creation, the righteous and the wicked, the believers and the Kafirs. The complete – absolute Grace and Blessing is connected or joined with the eternal rejoice and settled blessing. This is not mutual or shared blessings.
Generally the bounties both are shared (mutually shared) for both. If one wills to plunder (loot) the absolute Grace, then he is guided to the right. And if he wills to take the blessing generally, then he is mistaken. In this way all the evidences agree and the dispute is removed and it is made clear that both parties is wrong and right and Allaah is the One Who guides to the right.” [Badaa’ie al-Fawaa’id]
3- It does not negate the aforementioned point to state that Allaah is the Mawlaa (Patron, Protector, etc.) for all the creation i.e. He is their Master, Owner, their Creator and the One whom they worship, as Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says in Surat al-An’am (6:62):
ثُمَّ رُدُّواْ إِلَى اللّهِ مَوْلاَهُمُ الْحَقِّ أَلاَ لَهُ الْحُكْمُ وَهُوَ أَسْرَعُ الْحَاسِبِين
“Then they are returned to Allaah, their True Mawlaa [True Master (God), the Just Lord (to reward them)]. Surely, His is the Judgment and He is the Swiftest in taking account.”
Ash-Shinqueti (Rahimahullaah) said: “Allaah’s Statement, “Then they are returned to Allaah their True Mawlaa,” indicates that Allaah is the Mawlaa (True Master and Lord) of the disbelievers. Similarly, His Statement in Surat Yunus (10:30):
هُنَالِكَ تَبْلُو كُلُّ نَفْسٍ مَّا أَسْلَفَتْ وَرُدُّواْ إِلَى اللّهِ مَوْلاَهُمُ الْحَقِّ وَضَلَّ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُواْ يَفْتَرُونَ
“There! Every person will know (exactly all) what he had earned before, and they will be brought back to Allaah, their rightful Lord and their invented false deities will vanish from them.”
However, it has been mentioned in Surat Muhammad (47 :11) what contradicts this matter (which is Allaah being a Mawlaa for the disbelievers):
ذَلِكَ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ مَوْلَى الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَأَنَّ الْكَافِرِينَ لَا مَوْلَى لَهُمْ
“That is because Allaah is the Mawlaa (Lord , Master) of those who believe, and the disbelievers have no Mawlaa.”
The answer for that: The meaning of “Allaah is the Mawlaa of the disbelievers” is that Allaah is their Owner (Master) Who disposes their affairs with what He wills. And the meaning of “Allaah is the Mawlaa of the believers other than the disbelievers”, is the allegiance of Love, guidance, success and victory. And the knowledge is with Allaah. And there is no ambiguity in the verse, inorder to claim that the pronoun in the word ((ردوا (They returned) and the word ((مولاهم (their Mawlaa) refers to the angels. But the first meaning is more apparent and clear. [Da’f Iehaam al-Idtiraab and Ayat al-Kitab by Muhammad al-Ameen al Shinqueeti]
4- Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) is the One Who loves His Awliyya from among the Prophets, Siddiquin (the foremost to believe and the followers of the Prophets who were first and foremost to believe in them), the martyrs and the righteous.
Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says in Surat al-An’aam (6:127):
لَهُمْ دَارُ السَّلاَمِ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ وَهُوَ وَلِيُّهُمْ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَ
“For them will be the home of peace (Paradise) with their Lord. And He will be their Waliyy (Helper, Ally Protector) because of what they used to do.”
He is their Waliyy because of their righteous deeds which they have presented forth and sought nearness by them to their Lord.
5- It is permissible to call the servants with these two Noble Names. This has been mentioned in Allaah’s Statements in Surat Fussilat (41:34):
ادْفَعْ بِالَّتِي هِيَ أَحْسَنُ فَإِذَا الَّذِي بَيْنَكَ وَبَيْنَهُ عَدَاوَةٌ كَأَنَّهُ وَلِيٌّ حَمِيمٌ
“Repel (the evil) with one which is better (i.e Allaah ordered the faithful believers to be patient at the time of anger, and to excuse those who treat them badly), then verily, he between whom and you was enmity, (will become as though he was a close waliyy (close friend).”
Also Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says in Surat at-Tawbah (9:71):
وَالْمُؤْمِنُونَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتُ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَاء بَعْضٍ
“The believers, men and women, are Awliyaa’ (helpers, supporters, friends) of one another.”
And Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says in Surat an-Nisa (4:33):
وَلِكُلٍّ جَعَلْنَا مَوَالِيَ مِمَّا تَرَكَ الْوَالِدَانِ وَالأَقْرَبُونَ
“And to everyone, We have appointed heirs (Mawaali) of that (property) left by parents and relatives.”
6- The Awliyya’ of Allaah are those who love Him and support His religion.
Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) says in Surat Yunus (10:62-64):
أَلا إِنَّ أَوْلِيَاء اللّهِ لاَ خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلاَ هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ (62) الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَكَانُواْ يَتَّقُونَ(63) لَهُمُ الْبُشْرَى فِي الْحَياةِ الدُّنْيَا وَفِي الآخِرَةِ لاَ تَبْدِيلَ لِكَلِمَاتِ اللّهِ ذَلِكَ هُوَ الْفَوْزُ الْعَظِيمُ(64)
“No doubt! Verily, the Auliya of Allaah (i.e those who believe in the Oneness of Allaah and fear Allaah much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which he has forbidden), and love Allaah much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)], no fear shall come upon them nor shall they grieve.”(62)
“Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allaah – Islamic Monotheism), and used to fear Allaah much (by abstaining from evil deeds and sins and by doing righteous deeds).”(63)
“For them are glad tidings, in the life of the present world (i.e through a righteous dream seen by the person himself or shown to others), and in the Hereafter. No change can there be in Words of Allaah. This is indeed the supreme success.” (64)
One of the description of the Waliyy from among the slaves of Allaah is that he loves Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) and His Messenger Muhammad (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wasallam), he loves whoever loves Allaah and His Messenger, and hates whomever hates Allaah and His Messenger. He allies with whomever makes Allaah and His Messenger his Allies, and declare enmity against whoever shows enmity towards Allaah and His Messenger. He acts in the obedience of Allaah and refrains from disobedience to Him.
The patronage and allegiance will not be attained except with true belief, strong based knowledge, continuous firm deed and following the guidance shown by the Book, the Sunnah and the action of the righteous predecessor from this Ummah (Muslim nation).
Accordingly, the Walayah (Patronage and Allegiance) of Allaah is Kasbiyyah (i.e can be attained), has means and actions of the heart and of the limbs, that are required. It is not Wahbiyyah (i.e given as a gift) such that requires no means or actions, as some ignorant from among the Sufis utter. They attributed the patronage and allegiance to mad, rebellious and oppressors from among those who believe in unity of existence and its reunion* because of some extraordinary and devilish conjure practiced by some of them like entering the fire (without being burnt), carrying snakes (without being harmed), stabbing each other with swords and knives and so forth of the actions of the wicked magicians. This is their innovated Walaayah (Patronage), whereas the way to the Patronage according to the Sunnah is holding fast with the Book (the Qur’an), the Sunnah and acting upon them. In addition to following the way of the believers, who are righteous, pure, honorable.
Allaah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’aala) addresses His Prophet (Salla-Allaahu ‘alayhi wasallam) advising him:
“Then we have put you on a plain way of Our Commandment so follow you that and follow not the desires of those who know not. Verily, they can avail you nothing against Allaah (if He wants to punish you). Verily, the Dhalimûn (wrong doers) are Awliyaa (allies) to one another, but Allaah is the Waliyy (Protector) of the Muttaqun (The righteous).”

* They are one of the deviated sect who believe in incarnating god in his creation.
