An-Nahjul-Asma fii Sharh Asma’u Allah-ul-Husna, by Shaikh Muhammad Al-Humoud Al-Najdi.

“He is Allah, other than Whom none has the right to be worshipped, the King, the Holy, As-Salaam (the One Free from all defects), Al-Mu’min, Al-Muhaymin, the All-Mighty, the Compeller, the Supreme. Glory be to Allah! [High is He] above all that they associate as partners with Him.” [Al-Hashr 59:23]

Al-Mu’min means “Who has granted safety to His creation by promising that He will never be unjust to them,” according to Ad-Dahhak (Rahimahullah) who reported it from Ibn ‘Abbas (Rahimahullah).

Qatadah (Rahimahullah) said, “Al-Mu’min means that Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala) affirms that His statements are true,” while Ibn Zayd (Rahimahullah) said that it means, “He attested to His faithful slaves having faith in Him.”

Ash-Shawkani (Rahimahullah) said, “Al-Mu’min is He Who has granted safety to His slaves from His punishment.”

Shaikh as-Sa’di (Rahimahullah) said: “Al-Mu’min is the One Who has praised Himself with perfect Attributes and with the perfection of Magnificence and Beauty. The One Who sent His Messengers and revealed His Books containing signs and clear proofs. The One testified to the truth of His Messengers by giving them every sign and proof that would prove (certify) the truth of what they came with.” [Tayseer Al-Kareem 5/301]

The impact of believing in this Mighty Name:

  1. Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala) is the One Who testified and affirmed   His Oneness for Himself. As it is stated in Surat Al-Imran (3:18):

    شَهِدَ اللهُ أَنَّه لا إِلهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ

“Allah bears witness that ‘Laa ilaha illa Howa’ (none has the right to be worshipped but He).”

Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala) is testifying the Truth of His Oneness, and He (Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala) informed us that He will show His creation signs and proofs that would prove His Oneness and Greatness. Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala) said in Surat Fussilat (41:53):

    سَنُريهِم آياتِنا في الآفَاقِ وَفِي أَنفُسِهِم حَتَّى يَتَبَيَّنَ لَهُم أَنَّهُ الحَقُّ أَوَلَم يَكْفِ بِرَبِّكَ أَنَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَئٍ شَهيدٌ

“We will show them Our Signs in the universe, and in their own selves, until it becomes manifest to them that this (the Qur’an) is the truth. Is it not sufficient in regard to your Lord that He is a Witness over all things?”

  2. Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala) testified to the truth of His Prophets by giving them signs and miracles that would prove to the people that they are truthful in their claim, and that they are the Messengers of Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala)  and to prompt  them (the people) to accept the religion of Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala).
  3. Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala) asserts to His slaves what He has promised them of victory in this life, granting them authority in the land and the reward in the Hereafter, as He has promised the disbelievers with punishment and disgrace in this life and the Hereafter. Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala) said in Surat An-Nur (24:55):

“Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous good deeds, that He will certainly grant them succession (to authority) upon the earth just as He granted it to those before them and that He will surely establish for them (therein) their religion which He has preferred for them and that He will surely substitute for them, after their fear, security, (for) they (believers) worship Me and do not associate anything (in worship) with Me. But whoever disbelieves after that, then those are the defiantly disobedient.”

Whoever ponders over the biography of Prophet Muhammad (Salla Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) and his rightly guided Caliphs, will know the truthfulness of Allah’s promise for His righteous slaves.

     4.   Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala) has promised safety for those who do not deserve His punishment and will grant security to His believing slaves on the Day of Judgement. Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala) said in Surat Al-An’aam (6:82):

الَّذينَ آمَنوا ولَم يَلْبِسُوا إِيمانَهُم بِظُلْمٍ أُوْلئِكَ لهُمُ الأَمنُ وهُم مُّهْتَدُون

“It is those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah and worship none but Him Alone) and confuse not their belief with wrong (i.e. by worshipping others besides Allah), for them (only) there is security and they are the guided.”

Also Allah (Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala) said in Surat Al-Anbiya’ (21:103):

لا يَحْزُنُهُمُ الفَزَعُ الأَكْبَرُ وتَتَلَقَّاهُمُ الملائِكَةُ هذا يَوْمُكُمُ الَّذي كنتُمْ تُوعَدون

“The Greatest Terror (on the Day of Resurrection) will not grieve them.”

Also He (Subhaanahu wa Ta’ala) said in Surat An-Naml (27:89):

مَن جاءَ بِالحَسَنَةِ فَلَهُ خَيْرٌ مِّنها وهُم مِّن فَزَعِ يَوْمَئِذٍ آمِنون

“Whoever brings a good deed (of righteousness), will have better than its worth, and they will be safe from the terror on that Day.”

     5.    The believer should spare other believers from his evil and harm. Allah’s Messenger (Salla Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “By Allah, he does not believe! By Allah, he does not believe! By Allah, he does not believe!” It was said, “Who is that, O Allah’s Messenger?” He said, “That person whose neighbour does not feel safe from his evil.”[Al-Bukhari]
He (Salla Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) also said: “A Muslim is the one who avoids harming Muslims with his tongue and hands.”[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
Allah’s Messenger (Salla Allaahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Shall I tell you who is a believer? He is the one with whom the people entrusted their properties and own selves, and the Muslim is the one who avoids harming people with his tongue and hands.” [Sahih Hadith, reported by Ahmed]
